The Chariot

Detroit-based painter and illustrator, AJ Kesler chooses the line as his tool in creating quirky drawings – filled with meticulous patterns and fine touches of detail. Rather than depicting the world around him, AJ renders worlds of his own, often depicting whimsical juxtapositions of the seductive and silly. His work has been featured in museums and galleries throughout southeast Michigan. Being an eclectic spirit means having a lot of interests, or finding beauty in thoughts, experiences, and ideas. Drawing from his own interests, AJ uses his experience as a practicing juggler, fire-performer, and skateboarder to help shape his art. In 2013, he co-founded the Michigan skateboard company, Good Do Up Skateboards. AJ’s relationship between the world of art and skateboarding has encouraged him to curate events that enhance the community and bring youthful souls together. @aj_kes

Cheyenne Lee (b. 2001) is a interdisciplinary artist based in Detroit. Her work explores the psychological and bodily impact of environments—how the spaces we inhabit shape and transform us. Pulling from Mid-century modern aesthetics like color, materiality, and shape, she investigates the relationship between the physical body and its surroundings. Reflecting on themes of memory, absence, and transformation. Cheyenne’s practice is expanded into three-dimensional work, integrating wood, textiles, and acrylic—mostly found and repurposed materials, creating familiar, and delicate environments. By activating our senses through texture, form, and color, she invites deeper engagement, exploring how space can hold or challenge us. Drawing from personal and collective family histories, she often considers these ideas through the lens of girlhood and womanhood, using a language of abstraction to navigate themes of absence and resilience. @__cheyennelee__

Ray John is a Detroit-based photographer whose work fuses fashion, portraiture, and cinematic storytelling to explore Black beauty, presence, and emotion. His images are intentional, bold, and emotionally charged—where every pose, texture, and shadow contributes to a larger narrative. Rooted in both classical art and contemporary film, Ray draws from the lighting of Renaissance masters like Michelangelo, the mood of Impressionists like Manet, and the framing techniques of modern cinematographers. His creative process is deeply intuitive—driven by feeling, inspired by character, and grounded in composition. @x.rayjohn
