LOUIE BRENNAN - Live @ The Harrison London
2022-09-02
London based Dubliner Louis Brennan is a singer-songwriter in the folk tradition. His folk however aren’t the field hands and travelling minstrels of yore but the repressed middle managers and ennui-ridden urbanites of late stage capitalism. They populate tales of bad sex, half-drunk commutes and interpersonal claustrophobia delivered in Brennan’s cracked baritone, at times embarrassingly intimate, at times spuriously broad, peppered with pitch-black humour. Brennan has performed in many guises on many stages and is known for a live show that takes the listener on a journey, turning the mirror from himself onto the audience, commanding dynamics as if conducting an orchestra not standing alone with an acoustic guitar.

He is multi-award-winning, most notably winning the 2005 New Folk Songwriting Competition at Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas, the first non-American to do so. Jack Harris has been described as "a priest of song" by singer Anaïs Mitchell.

THREE CANE WHALE - Live @ The Harrison London
2022-07-30
As intricate as a team of watchmakers, as spare as a mountain stream, uplifting and elegiac in equal measure, Three Cane Whale’s multi-instrumental acoustic music encompasses both a cinematic sweep and an intimate delicacy, in which "the aroma of muddy leaves and old nettles is almost tangible" (The Observer). Championed early on by Cerys Matthews, 3CW’s music has featured on BBC Radios 3, 4 and 6Music, as well as TV and film. In 2019, the band recorded its fifth album,"303", in a set of linked locations in South Somerset. "exquisite, elegant, atmospheric and charmingly quirky" (The Guardian) / ‘musical miniatures imbued with the West Country landscape. Exquisite, within and without. Four stars’ (Songlines) / 'wordless paeans to rural southern England. Quiet but compellingly emotional music that is richly-textured and containing melodies of real beauty. 5 stars’ (fRoots)
MAZ O'CONNOR - Live @ The Harrison London
2022-07-26
Maz O’Connor's music has been described by The Observer as 'the perfect mix of youthfulness and gravitas'. Her songs are short stories wrapped in a unique soundscape. They combine acoustic instruments, folk imagery, electronic soundscapes and O’Connor’s ethereal vocals. A millennial meeting of Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush, heartbreak, longing, and a taste for irony remain constant touchstones. Other influences include Paula Rego, Mary Oliver, Nina Simone, Bjork, Dylan, sessions in Irish pubs, urban foxes, and the lonely moon. Her new album, co-written and co-produced with composer Will Gardner, is an ambitious song-cycle set in the city at night. It explores themes of anxiety, isolation, gentrification, capitalism, sexuality, spirituality, and the search for connection in an age of consumerism. ‘O’Connor’s ace, apart from her remarkable songwriting talent, is her captivating voice.’ (Q)
