A Famosa Fortress (Porta de Santiago) – The only remaining gate of the Portuguese-built fortress after the conquest of Malacca. In 1511, Portuguese forces led by Afonso de Albuquerque captured Melaka, ending the Sultanate’s rule. They built the A Famosa fortress and imposed Christianity and European administrative systems.
