What happens when the vocal diversity and prowess of Tom Waits is taken into the musical stylings of mid 90’s alternative rock, with a subtle blend of post-Britpop and dark wave embellishments? Seemingly this is the question on the mind of Chase the River as they begin to turn out their latest material. Frontman Stuart Lunn’s vocal diversity and power are a heady mix of delicate and introspective, yet with an ability to deliver striking power and contrast in his delivery. At times, you would swear his voice has been dry rubbed in spice, stored in a vat of bourbon and then dragged for miles up a gravel path. Then in an instant it is quiet, reflective and you can hear a real pain and darkness in the softer moments of Chase the Rivers repertoire. Defining the genre of Chase the River is like trying to nail soup to a wall, with such a wide number of comparable (yet totally different acts) seemingly at least partly fitting. JASMINFIRE is a painter, recording artist and creative DJ who combines poetic lyricism with violin, cello, and Serato. Her live and recorded music ranges from light and meditative to trancelike and provocative, centering around powerful messages of self love, mental health, and the intricacies of relationships. After expressing much heartbreak and isolation detailed on her debut Baby Jazz EP (2019), her latest single, "Heart Chakra" (2021), celebrates affirmations of growth leading to a newfound soul liberation. Jasminfire began as “Charly”, a painter and violinist in the violin-viola group Chargaux (est. 2010) writing and releasing music the duo performed for fans, NYC high fashion brands, and tech events. From 2012-2016 Chargaux performed their original works at the White House, the Guggenheim, Lincoln Center, the MoMA, PAMM (Miami), ATL Jazz Fest, NYC Winter Jazz Fest, and the Roots Picnic. At the same time, they composed and stylized string arrangements for several albums by Kendrick Lamar (Good Kid m.a.a.d. City) and J Cole (2014 Forest Hills Drive, 4 Your Eyez Only, KOD) that all went on to earn Grammy nominations. Simultaneously Charly’s painting career also got alot of attention, showing at PULSE Art Fair, ArtHamptons, and debuting a solo exhibit at Catinca Tabacaru Gallery in LES. Chargaux disbanded in 2017 and in 2018 “Charly” moved to LA for a gap year, where she participated as an orchestral member of Beyonce’s historic Homecoming performance at Coachella (Beychella). She also continued exploring larger format canvas paintings, selling to private collectors. Most recently, Jasmifnire recorded herself as an entire orchestra for Kid Cudi’s newly released documentary on Amazon Prime.
