Market Makers invites visitors to explore the relationship between fine art, markets, and capital. The exhibition seeks to go beyond the traditional notion of art by exploring the performance of exchange within the artworks, delving deeper into the myths and narratives surrounding both historical and contemporary markets — aiming to shed light on the lore, history, and current tensions between cryptocurrencies, decentralized finance (DeFi), banks, and traditional financial mechanisms. The exhibition encourages visitors to question established norms, challenge preconceptions, and delve into the growing landscape of value, economics, and cultural expression.
In collaboration with the estate, EXPANDED.ART is pleased to present the solo show CODED BEAUTY by Herbert W Franke. The show is comprised of eight works of Franke’s series MATH ART created between 1980 and 1995, early generative photographs from the 1950s, his Biennale serigraphy including QUADRATE (1969/70) and further serigraphies. Herbert W. Franke held the belief that the beauty of structures shown in visual arts is founded on mathematical codes throughout his entire career. He spent a lifetime in search of them. In the 1950s, he started generating art based on mathematical principles, which led to his first pieces, LICHTFORMEN and OSZILLOGRAMME, and finally used computer programs from the 1960s on. He began working on the enormous body of work MATH ART in 1980 with the programmer Horst Helbig. Over the course of 15 years, he methodically analyzed the mathematical conceptual worlds, from algebra to stochastics, for the aesthetic component. Even to the spectator who is unfamiliar with mathematics, the opulent visualizations reveal quite varied aesthetic frameworks.
DYOR (Do Your Own Research) is a dictum of the crypto scene. The principle is that one should do one's own investigation rather than believing all that is read. The exhibition reveals to visitors what is, for many, a new world: art in the context of blockchain and NFTs. Curated by Nina Roehrs, DYOR focusses on artists, projects and platforms that have had a significant influence on how the crypto art scene has developed and is today. This DYOR – POAP can be collected when visiting the exhibition in Zürich. Created by Andreas Gysin (aka ertdfgcvb)
This is a POAP for attending our Ledger NFT Art cocktail happening as a side event of Paris+ 2022. Thanks for coming and for being part of the NFT revolution!
