KITCHMAN SCHMIDT - Live @ The Harrison London
2022-09-01
Two compelling improvisers emerging from London’s jazz scene, James Kitchman (UK) & Sylvia Schmidt (DE) are an accomplished guitar-vocal duo. Originally drawn together by the richness and variety of the jazz tradition, they have recently explored more diverse sources of inspiration, including Anglo-American folk ballads of the Appalachian mountains. Their sound embraces the dynamic tension between forces of preservation and transformation, creating a space in which the haunting beauty of nostalgia and irresistibility of change intersect.

MAZ O'CONNOR - Live @ The Harrison London
2022-07-26
Maz O’Connor's music has been described by The Observer as 'the perfect mix of youthfulness and gravitas'. Her songs are short stories wrapped in a unique soundscape. They combine acoustic instruments, folk imagery, electronic soundscapes and O’Connor’s ethereal vocals. A millennial meeting of Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush, heartbreak, longing, and a taste for irony remain constant touchstones. Other influences include Paula Rego, Mary Oliver, Nina Simone, Bjork, Dylan, sessions in Irish pubs, urban foxes, and the lonely moon. Her new album, co-written and co-produced with composer Will Gardner, is an ambitious song-cycle set in the city at night. It explores themes of anxiety, isolation, gentrification, capitalism, sexuality, spirituality, and the search for connection in an age of consumerism. ‘O’Connor’s ace, apart from her remarkable songwriting talent, is her captivating voice.’ (Q)
