Ahead of this week's exhibit on generative art with Artsy and Vellum LA, Aya + Patricia El will join us on 3/22/22 to share their work, and how they use generative tools to forge a path for new languages in the realm of digital art and beyond. Aya is a multi-hyphenate creative, Artificial Intelligence (AI) artist, data scientist, and poetic meditation teacher; she co-creates with AI to generate visuals inspired by storytelling. Aya will discuss the development process of her two NFT collections: Restorative Afrofuturism and Generating Binti Worlds. Patricia El works across immersive technologies, social justice, audio-visual poetics, and storytelling to explore forms of collective (and personal) liberation, digital protest, and equity in the machine age. Tony Herrera and Mona Kuhn join us on 2/22/2022 to speak about the formation of ObscuraDAO, building community for lens-based artists, and the current exhibition of NFTs on billboards in Los Angeles that "blurs the lines between the tangible and the digital." Vellum LA's proof of attendance for the first solo show ever by a “decentralized autonomous artist, governed by the people.” Botto is an algorithm that produces work based on feedback from a community of surrounding stakeholders. The Decentralized Unicists brings this (literally) digital-born artist into a physical gallery setting—extending the social experiment initiated by the Botto community. In this act, Botto becomes an emissary artist from the future, revealing how the new modes by which art, emerging technologies, and society might interact in the years (or days) to come.
