New approaches are increasingly being used in the area of discrete manufacturing – the demand for agile and highly automated testing methods is growing, especially in quality assurance. The technologies are already available – but special expertise is needed to integrate them. The trend is therefore toward cloud-based no-code applications, which quickly enable people with sufficient domain knowledge to create corresponding solutions without technical expertise. However, this requires an efficient IT architecture to connect machines and robots. Hybrid architectures are particularly suitable for this: They combine local data analysis on the shop floor with the cloud’s scalability options. Using mobile inspection robots as examples, we will illustrate a hybrid platform approach with Microsoft Azure in this presentation. Tomorrow’s mobility will be autonomous – and so numerous OEMs and suppliers in the automotive industry are researching physical systems and digital applications that will enable vehicles to drive fully autonomously in the future. Expectations are high: The Volkswagen Group alone aims to generate around 30 percent of its revenue from autonomous driving services by 2030. But will autonomous driving become a game changer and an essential part of future mobility? Are the high investments and expectations justified? Will self-driving shuttles have a lasting positive impact on traffic? Based on exclusive primary data, metadata analyses and existing data from our projects, we develop various scenarios.
