Cambridge United, also known as "The U’s," have a history dating back to their founding in 1912 as Abbey United. The club took on its current name in 1951 and has since experienced a rollercoaster journey through the English football league system. They began in local amateur leagues before making their way into the Southern League, eventually earning their place in the Football League in 1970. Their climb up the leagues was marked by notable achievements, including back-to-back Southern League Premier Division titles in 1968–69 and 1969–70. Under the management of John Beck, Cambridge United enjoyed a golden period in the early 1990s, securing promotions and even reaching the Second Division play-offs.
